A cold 1036mb high pressure system has settled into the middle part of the United States, bringing with it some of the coldest air that the lower 48 has seen in years! Dangerously cold temperatures have been responsible for a number of fatalities across dozens of states. It is very important to remember that this kind of cold weather can be a serious, life-threatning event! Ridiculously cold wind chill temperatures were measured last night, especially in the northern Plains, where temperatures plummeted past -50 degrees Farenheit! Tonight's temperatures are expected to be similar if not worse in many locations. The good news is we expect to see a slight warmup at the beginning of next week.
People living in Europe have also been experiencing similar conditions, as snow and cold are creating all sorts of issues across the continent. In England, transportation has been stifled, schools have been closing, and even soccer matches have been cancelled! In central Europe, citizens are preparing for blizzard conditions to arrive within the next day. Stay warm everybody!
