This update re-enables the program to download and visualise German radar data. And it also includes two other things that I worked on last year, namely Polish radar data and radar-derived vertical wind profiles. I keep the description very concise now, a better description follows later when I also provide an update for Linux.
New features:
- Support for new DWD radar data in hdf5 format. This data is provided in 2 different versions, with different filtering methods applied. You can switch between these 2 versions by pressing Shift+E.
- Support for Polish radar data.
- Calculating and displaying radar-derived wind profiles, click at the VWP button in the menu. Right-clicking in the VWP window pops up a menu with multiple options.
- Switch between radars by pressing Ctrl+n, with n a number between 1 and 9, or 0 (which represents 10). The program then switches to the nth nearest radar with data available for the selected date, with nearest relative to the panel centers. This new option allows you to switch between radars without having to zoom in/out and pan around.
Here is the link (Note: installer has been updated at 13 June 2021, to solve an issue with downloading some vispy data, that is required for visualisation. This issue caused problems for new users, that didn't yet have these vispy data on their PC): https://www.dropbox.com/s/8fpbthk9bux37ya/NLradar_setup_windows.exe?dl=0
IMPORTANT: You still need to give the program admin rights, something I want to get rid before a next update. How to do that in a permanent way: Find the location of the executable (probably in C:/Program Files (x86)/NLradar/Python_files, named nlr.exe) -> right-click at it -> click ‘Compatibility’ -> check ‘Run this program as an administrator’.
