De bliksem is vele malen sneller dan de trage sluitertijd van de videocamera. Het is dus 1 ontlading en het duurt als het ware even eer die "op zijn juiste plaats staat" op de film.
"What you're seeing on the tape is a common 'ghosting' effect that happens when videotaping lightning strikes. The lightning flash is actually faster than the camera's shutter speed, and therefore will often 'bleed' across a portion of the video frame prior to the strike. This creates the false 'ghost' lightning bolt at the bottom of the screen that looks like it struck just a few feet, or even inches, away from you."
